Working with Sexual Violence, Complex Trauma and Complex PTSD Thu 25 October 2018 09:00 – 16:30 Dunsilly Hotel, 20 Dunsilly Rd, Antrim, BT41 2JH Christiane Sanderson will deliver training that will introduce cutting edge research in neuroscience of how trauma shapes the brain and how this impacts on the psychological and physical well being of survivors. It will examine the range of sexual violence and abuse gives rise to complex trauma and trauma symptoms such as dissociation, intrusive memories, flashbacks, hyperarousal and avoidance which underpin Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The focus will be on enhancing awareness of how trauma is stored in the right brain, outside of conscious awareness, and how the lack of verbally accessible memories leads to the body keeping the score. Tangent club celebrate fundraising success for Nexus

  Local women from the newly established Tangent Club in Enniskillen are celebrating after raising an impressive £800 from their first fundraising event for Nexus NI. The establishment of the Tangent Club also gives Enniskillen the accolade of being the only town in Northern Ireland to have all 4 Clubs from the Round Table Family and offer local men and women aged 18 and over the opportunity to come together for fun, friendship and to support local causes. The Tangent Club started their year-long calendar of activities for Nexus with a summer BBQ and raffle. New ladies Tangent club speak out for Nexus NI

Local women in Enniskillen have come together to establish a new Tangent Club for women aged 45 years and over. Part of the 4 Club Round Table Family, the Tangent Club is about having fun, making new friendships and fundraising for local causes. The club has chosen Nexus NI as their charity of the year to support through various fundraising and awareness-raising activities, starting with a summer BBQ to celebrate their official Charter into the Tangent Association. Nexus launch client created film to #BreaktheSilence

The film project came about because both Nexus NI staff and our Co-Nexion clients are passionate about Breaking the Silence and what better way to do this than with some video recordings of real issues related to sexual violence and its impacts, using it as a positive educational tool for people working directly in this area. We worked with the production company JourneyFor, who taught our clients how to use media as a platform to portray their message.  Not only did participants enjoy learning how to use the filming equipment and how to go about recording a short film, but they all felt it was a valuable tool in their own ongoing therapeutic journey towards recovery. DIS.CO is a two year Erasmus+ project that aims at the development, piloting and dissemination of VET material regarding the enhancement of key competences of psycho-social Counselling practitioners in the field of Counselling women victims of violence through alternative digital means.  The aim is to provide alternative innovative services and to build virtual workplaces. Nexus NI needs to keep information to enable us to offer counselling, training, volunteer opportunites and fundraising.  Some of the information we keep is of a sensitive nature, especially information on our clients.  To ensure that information is kept safe and only used in a proper manner we have updated our polices, procedures and produced a comprehensive privacy notice to ensure that we comply with GDPR which come into effect on Friday 25 May. Nexus NI is registered with the Information Commissioners Office (Reg. No. Z3266690) are we are legally obliged to look after your information.
